(This book replaces Law and the Physician: A Practical Guide, by Edward P. Richards and Katharine C. Rathbun, which was originally published by Little Brown and Company.)
Medical Care Law is unique among medical law books in being co-authored by a husband and wife team. Edward P. Richards, J.D., M.P.H., is Professor of Law at the University of Missouri at Kansas City and has specialized in health law for more than 20 years. His co-author, and wife, Katharine C. Rathbun, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.A.F.P., F.A.C.P.M., is a practicing physician with special expertise in family medicine, and is Board Certified in Occupational Medicine and in Public Health. Their goal in writing Medical Care Law was to produce a book that is legally accurate while being accessible to non-lawyer readers.
The authors explain basic legal concepts for the lay reader, while providing practical advice on cutting edge issues in medical law that will be valuable to readers who are sophisticated in medical law. Medical Care Law is an essential reference for health care professionals, patients interested in the legal aspects of medical practice, and attorneys who represent medical care professionals.
