TITLE:  DoD Instruction 5505.2, "Criminal Investigations of Fraud Offenses," 02/06/2003

SUMMARY:  This Instruction:  1. Reissues and updates DoD Instruction 5505.2 and cancels reference (b). References (c) and (d) provide the Inspector General of the Department of Defense (IG DoD), the authority to initiate, conduct, and supervise investigations relating to fraud within the Department of Defense (including the Military Departments) and other investigations as the IG DoD deems appropriate. Reference (c) also requires that the IG DoD give particular regard to the activities of the Military Departments with a view toward avoiding duplication and ensuring efficient and effective coordination and cooperation.  2. Implements reference (d) to establish policies, responsibilities, and procedure for determining which of the DoD Criminal Investigative Organizations (DCIOs) shall conduct investigations of fraud offenses under both the United States Code and Uniform Code of Military Justice.
