Critical Points

* The improper use of safety devices can increase medical malpractice litigation.

* Physicians must understand the limitations of physiologic monitoring if they are to use medical devices appropriately.

* Cost containment is exacerbating the problems of critical care medicine and will increase litigation against critical care physicians.
