Active Status List ", 10/21/1996 SUMMARY: This Directive reissues DoD Directive 1320.8, September 18,
1981 (hereby canceled), to update policies under Sections 611, 1410(b), 14701, and 14703
of Title 10, United States Code. Governing continuation of commissioned officers on the
Active Duty List, continuation of Reserve commissioned officers on the Reserve Active
Status List, deferral of mandatory retirement for years of service of officers on the
Active Duty List, and the retention of Reserve chaplains and Reserve officers in medical
