Fomites

A fomite is an inanimate object that is contaminated with disease-causing microorganisms. Fomites may be too small to see, or they may be large objects such as contaminated clothing or safety equipment. Although not as dangerous as airborne transmission, fomite transmission, including fecal-oral transmission, can be a problem in child care and nursing situations.
