Physicians work with various nonphysician medical personnel: nurses, laboratory
technicians, physician's assistants, respiratory therapists, and many others.
The law must balance the restrictions on the delegation of medical decision
making to nonphysicians against the special skills that these paramedical
personnel possess. While a physician's license includes the right to perform
all paramedical acts, the physician often is not as skilled as the paramedical
personnel in carrying out these acts.
